Oh dear, how do I fess up to this? I don't feel 'fat', but the scale clearly says I am :-(
So I guess I should divulge the number right? OK...here goes....I've gained approx 20lbs and I'm in my 18th week [4.5 months]!!! Now, I was weighed at my last appointment, but that was about 6lbs ago, and I was told that it was ok, but seeing the number this morning was a shock! I did do some online searching and the info is random that I had sites quoting normal pregnancy weight gain at 11-25lbs over the entire pregnancy, to 20-45lbs. So if it's the latter, I'm ok...but if its the former, I'm in trouble!
I know how I did this...I haven't been eating well and I know it. Normally, I make sure to eat lots of fruits and veggies, but honestly, with all the morning sickness and vomiting, I've been eating more and more often, as an empty stomach leads to worse nausea. To top it off, the acid in fruit or fruit juices would induce vomiting, so I have not been eating a lot of fruits or veggies. It's been carbs, carbs and carbs. I try to get whole grains in, but I'm not always successful. So now that the nausea seems to have curbed, I'm hoping that I can decrease my food volume and get back to fruits and veggies. I even had a salad on Saturday and it stayed down!!
We have our anatomy scan on Friday, so I'm sure I'll be weighed at that point and get the official info from my doc then. I've never been a stick figure, as pre-pregnancy I was a size 10 and weighed approx 165lbs on a 5'7 frame. I don't feel heavy or look it, but the baby bump is actually a baby belly already. I'm still wearing my pre-pregnancy jeans, just with a belly band as I clearly can't do them up. I met for lunch with a friend of mine who is also pregnant, but she is 6.5 months along, compared to my 4.5, and I swear that our bellies are about the same size!!!! So needless to say, I'm not overly worried about this weight gain, as pregnancy is no time to diet...but I do plan to decrease my volume a little bit and get back to my fruits and veggies. And by volume, I mean that I will halve my breakfasts and lunches, which for the last while were 2 pieces of toast/sandwiches, and I think that since the nausea isn't bugging me as much I should be OK with 1 sandwich or piece of toast and use fruits/veggies as snacks in between.
Thanks for letting me whine about this,

You are too funny!!!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy every.single.minute and pound of this...just think...you could be crying b/c you have no need to gain any weight. :(
You'll get it off after baby arrives...and if not...your child is still going to think you're beautiful!!!
Val
Thanks Val - I admit, I've enjoyed every minute and every mouthful of cake and cookies, but I will try to be a little healthier about it, and there are definitely advantages...I've never had cleavage before :-)
ReplyDeleteJust to let you know, I have gained about that much in about the same time frame with every pregnancy. I usually go on to gain a total of 40-50 lbs. Not don't get scared! It has always come off in the first few months with sensible eating and breastfeeding(which burns calories).
ReplyDeleteHaving lots of morning(all day!!) sickness really packs on the weight because you do need to eat lots of carbs to take the edge off the nausea. I felt like that, and so did many of my friends. You are not alone!
I am sure your belly is very cute!
It is all fine. Don't worry about the weight gain.
ReplyDeleteThanks girls - I wasn't worried, but feel more relaxed about it now!!
ReplyDeleteI know how you feel! I have to admit...it is very hard saying no to the carbs and sweets! I love carbs too! They are also a good source of energy ;) Good luck this Friday!!!
